MSOC | Kodiaks offence overcomes Lions

October 6, 2018 – In the first ever match between the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and Ambrose Lions, it was the Kodiaks offense that shone through on a beautiful Saturday in Lethbridge.

The Kodiaks scored early and often en route to a commanding 6-1 win over their Calgary rivals.

Lethbridge opened the scoring in the sixth minute, getting their opening goal on a cross kick from Ben Knight to Wilson Ntignee, who then headed the ball out of the goalies reach.

Ambrose responded two minutes later when Joel Navarrette came back to score their first and only goal of the match.

The Kodiaks didn't let up,, however, and came back to score four more times in the first half.

Their second goal came in the 22nd minute, when team captain Ben Knight placed a free kick just over the wall, blitzing it past the goalie's hands into the net.

Jimmy Bukuru then started a streak of three Kodiaks goals in nine minutes, scoring Lethbridge's third goal by chipping a through ball from the left wing over the goalie in the center of the net.

Ben Knight came back with his second goal of the game in the 33rd minute, knocking in a deflection off a corner kick from Matteo Pasquotti.

Six minutes later, Taylor Laviolette put home a beautiful header through the goalkeeper's legs to seal a 5-1 Kodiaks lead to close out the first half.

The second half started off with equal fight from both teams and plenty of scoring opportunities for the Kodiaks, who were finally able to get their sixth and final goal from Jimmy Bukuru in the 86th minute, just before the last whistle was blown.

The Kodiaks advance to 4-3-1 in their season, while the Lions fall 0-5-2. The Kodiaks are back on home turf tomorrow as they take on the Medicine Hat Rattlers in a crucial ACAC playoff matchup. The Kodiaks and Rattlers are tied for third place in the south division with 13 points a piece.
