Sept 24, 2017 – After a lackluster first half, the Kodiaks used a spirited late rally to salvage a point against the Olds College Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
Down 2-0 and with defeat on the horizon, the Kodiaks used late goals from Wilson Ntignee and Ben Knight at the 80' and 88' marks to stun the Broncos.
The Kodiaks lacked urgency in the first 45 minutes of play, and the Broncos were able to take advantage for an early lead. Abioden Owolabi opened the scoring in injury time on a nice chip in from in-close to put Olds up 1-0/
Lethbridge came out with more intensity to open the second half, but Olds goalkeeper Julio Meirelles came up with multiple saves to stymy the Kodiaks offense. Owolabi then assisted on Olds' second goal at the 71' mark, when Jacob McLarney was able to strike one past Kodiaks goalkeeper Kohl Wandyka.
Staring defeat straight in the face, the Kodiaks buckled down for the final twenty minutes and finally got rewarded.
Wilson Ntignee got the Kodiaks on the board with a header assisted by Jimmy Bukuru, breathing life into a Kodiaks side that has struggled to generate offense in the past two games.
With just minutes remaining, Ben Knight saved the day by putting home a brilliant header from in-close. Off a corner kick, Matteo Pasquotti knocked down the ball and directed it towards Knight, who made no mistake in putting it into the bottom left corner.
The Kodiaks move to 2-1-2 with the draw, while Olds picked up their first point of the season and move to 0-4-1.
Lethbridge will begin preparations for a home match next Saturday against Medicine Hat, while Olds will host Lakeland.
