THUNDER HOST THE EAGLES TO KICK OFF THE ACAC MEN’S SOCCER SEASON

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder kicked off the 2017-18 ACAC athletics year by hosting The King's University Eagles in Men's Soccer regular season action on Friday September 9.

 

It was a tightly contested match, with the Thunder eventually clinging on to win 2-1. Dannish import Rene Nederby opened the scoring at the 12' mark of the match to give the Thunder an early 1-0 lead. 1st year midfielder Nicholas Carreiro added to the lead in the 28th minute off a Matt Hanson touch, making it 2-0 for the Thunder. Eagles midfielder Jorge de Paz cut the lead in half late off a penalty kick at the 71' mark, though the Eagles were unable to find an equalizer before time ran out.

 

The ACAC Players of the Game for the Eagles was #22 Tosh Hartley and for the Thunder #15 Rene Nederby

 

Next up, the Thunder host the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings on Sunday Septmeber 10 at 2:00 PM, while The King's University Eagles will host their home opener against NAIT on Saturday September 16 at 2:00 PM.
