Edmonton, AB (March 17, 2023) -

Player of the Year presented by CCM Hockey: Brandon Machado

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Brandon Machado of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Year.

Machado becomes the first Trojans player to win the ACAC’s Player of the Year Award since Shane Lust did so back in 2010-11. The product of Airdrie, Alta., led the ACAC in scoring – recording 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 24 games to help his Trojans to a 13-10-1 record and third place finish in the standings.

At one point of the season, Machado recorded 13 points in what was an eight-game point streak dating from Oct. 22 to Nov. 18. The last Trojans men’s hockey player to lead the ACAC in scoring was Dean Allison back in 2018-19 when he notched 38 points in 28 games.

“Brandon had a remarkable season for the Trojans and we congratulate him for winning the ACAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Year Award,” said Wade Kolmel, SAIT Director of Athletics and Recreation. “He came in and helped set a tone for the rest of the team with his work ethic and attention to detail. He should be proud of what he accomplished in his first season with us.”

Machado is a second-year Open Studies student at SAIT.

This prestigious award will be presented at the 2023 ACAC Men's Hockey Championship Final in Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 17, 2023.
