Heartbreaker OT Loss to the Trojans

EDMONTON, AB (March 4th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the SAIT Trojans for game two of the three-game quarterfinals series. Thunder went into tonight's game up by one after their 6-2 victory Friday night in Calgary. Tonight's game was an absolute nail-biter with tons of back-and-forth action. Late into the third period Thunder tied the game 3-3 and pushed it to overtime. They fought hard, and after a couple of incredible opportunities to take the series, the Trojans pushed back and scored to finish the game 4-3.

In the first period, each side pushed hard offensively. 7 minutes into the first, Trojans opened up the scoring. Thunder #14 Rylan Nivon with the quick response to make it 1-1. Not long after, Trojans regain their lead making it 2-1 heading into the second period.

 The second period heated up quickly and much of the action was happening in the offensive zone. #9 Krz Plummer brings Thunder back into the game tying it 2-2. Shortly after SAIT goes on a 5-3 powerplay and capitalizes quickly putting them back on top 3-2.

Throughout the third period, the Trojans held the majority of puck possession. Thunder comes alive in the final ten minutes pushing hard offensively. #23 Zachary Cunningham takes his time and finds the opening to tie the game for the third time making 3-3.

Neither team was able to finish it in regulation and the game went into an incredibly exciting overtime period. CUE kept their fans on the edge of their seats tonight and fought hard to finish the series in two, but ultimately the Trojans will score with 3 minutes left to win the game and push the series to three.
