NAIT Ooks Soar Above The Clippers in Semi-Finals
A winner takes all game between the NAIT Ooks and the Briercrest Clippers took place in a Sunday matinee. The NAIT Ooks took home the third and final game of the series and advanced to the ACAC men's hockey championships.
For the first time in this series, Briercrest took the game's first penalty, and the Ooks capitalized with a powerplay goal from Nicholas Leyer. This was the first time the Ooks scored the game's first goal in the series. Shortly after, the Ooks doubled their lead with a goal from Dylan Stewart as the Ooks now had an early two-goal lead. With under nine minutes played in the first period, it was NAIT again getting their third goal of the game. This time it was Shane Fraser extending the lead to three. Moments after the third goal, Briercrest goalie Dominik Tmej left with an injury, and Billy Cawthorn came in to replace him. NAIT wasn't done yet, though, as they added their fourth goal of the period from Bjorn Robinson.
4-0 NAIT after one.
Briercrest started out with two early power plays in the second but couldn't get anything on the board. The second period was pretty quiet for the most part, but it was NAIT scoring on the power play for the fifth consecutive goal. The goal scorer was Colby Livingstone. Briercrest responded, though with a goal in the last second of the period on the powerplay from Curtis Wiebe.
5-1 NAIT after two.
Briercrest applied the pressure early in the period, but the Ooks would not break. Briercrest got a late one from Halen Cordoni to make it 5-2, but NAIT came out with the victory.
5-2 NAIT final.
Congratulations on an excellent season for the Briercrest Clippers, and best of luck to the NAIT Ooks in the championship round.
