Hilman’s double-double not enough to stop Briercrest

The Olds College Broncos men's basketball team lost 98-82 to the Briercrest College Clippers in the Parent Appreciation Game Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

http://gobroncos.ca/sports/mbkb/2019-20/photos/IMG_6319_web.jpg The game started fast paced with Broncos taking an 11-6 lead before Briercrest responded to tie the game.  The teams went back and forth exchanging tiny leads and the score 22-20 for the Broncos off a Landon Parrington layup with one and a half minutes left followed by an Alec Hilman three to give the Broncos a 25-22 lead after one quarter. 

The teams exchange three with Briercrest taking an early 31-28 lead. Briercrest took a 33-28 lead and forced a Broncos timeout. The Broncos built a 34-33 lead before Briercrest called a timeout and then bounced back to take a 41-34 lead of their own. The Broncos cut the lead to 43-38 with 2:21 left in the half. The teams exchanged baskets with Alec Hilman hitting a great layup to bring the score to 45-40 to end the half. 

The torrid pace continued in the third quarter with Briercrest jumping out to a 57-48 lead and forcing a Broncos timeout. The teams continued to exchange baskets with Briercrest maintaining a double digit lead, even extending it to 68-54 with just over a minute left in the quarter. A John Kaweesi hook shot through a foul followed by a made free throw brought the score to 68-59 for Briercrest to end the quarter.

Briercrest continued to build up their lead in the fourth quarter, forcing a Broncos timeout at 79-61. Briercrest scored out of the timeout to further increase their lead, but the Broncos responded right back to cut the score to 81-63. Briercrest had two fast break baskets to increase their lead again and force another Broncos timeout at 85-63. Muktar Mohamed scored a free throw out of the timeout to cut into the lead and Landon Parrington layup brought the score to 83-68. Briercrest fast breaks quick passing built their lead up to 90-69. The Broncos tried to make a push but Briercrest took the game 98-82.

Player of the game for Briercrest was Riley Seaborn with 19 points and three assists and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Alec Hilman with a game high 10 rebounds to go with 15 points and a team high four assists.

The Broncos led the game in rebounds 36-34 and Briercrest led in assists 27-21, steals 9-8 and blocks 1-0. Game leaders for the Broncos were Muktar Mohamed with a game high 27 points, and John Kaweesi with a team high three steals.http://gobroncos.ca/sports/mbkb/2019-20/photos/IMG_5965_thumb.jpg
