The Spartan Leads the Way
The magical number was 94 the last two times the Huskies played the Lakeland College Rustlers as Keyano won 94-80 and 94-84 back in November down in Lloydminster.
Sporting new uniforms – clean and white – the Huskies wanted to work up a quick sweat.
In a physical opening period, the Huskies lead 20-10 behind the hot shooting hands of guards Jacob Simmons (6 points) and Jo Michel (7 points).
At halftime it was 40-30 in favor of the Huskies shooting 43% from the field compared to 31% for Lakeland.
Huskies 6-foot-8 centre Noah Horobetz Simpson playing well with six boards and seven points to credit.
Rustlers veteran Adrian Richards (4th year) leads the visitors with 10 points.
Huskies go on an eight-point run to start the third period as Lakeland coach Sheray Thomas (former player with Kentucky Wildcats, 2003-2007) calls timeout.
Play of the night comes in the third period when Simpson has a big time "In Your Face" block which leads to an Angelo Mbituyimana dunk to make it 52-36.
Huskies lead 62-43 after three periods.
