MBB | Strong Start to The Kodiaks Home Opener
Oct. 19, 2019 - Lethbridge established an energetic tone to their home opener as they opened the game with eleven unanswered points. With the majority of Saturday's starters being first years, the Kodiaks showed nerves of steel.
While the Kodiaks came onto the court with an offensive plan, the Clippers quickly regrouped finding themselves trailing by five at the end of the first quarter. CJ Greer was pivotal for his teams effort in closing the gap from the Kodiaks lead by putting up eight points.
Moving into the second quarter, the game remained exciting as the Clippers kept nipping at the Kodiaks heels to take the lead. Lethbridge's head coach Ryan Heggie wasn't having any of it as he called multiple timeouts to keep his team focused. This strategy proved to be effective as the Kodiaks maintained their lead. Chase Bohne of Lethbridge made 11 points and four rebounds to help his team stay ahead.
After half, Lethbridge found their energy that they began with and protected their lead. Between first year Brock Dewsbery's nine points and second year Orin Porter's ten points in the third quarter, the Clippers struggled to stop them. This unstoppable duo would go on to lead their team in points Saturday.
As the game shifted into the fourth quarter, Lethbridge looked more confident with their plays. The Kodiaks slowed the pace of the game down so that they could control it more efficiently and minimize mistakes.
Brock Dewsbery had an excellent start to his ACAC career Saturday as he put up 23 points for his team. This rock solid performance earned him player of the game. Orin Porter followed closely behind Dewsbery with a whopping 23 points of his own.
Lethbridge will hit the road next Friday to take on rivals, the Medicine Hat Rattlers. Following Friday's action, the Kodiaks will return home Saturday evening to host St. Mary's University at 8:00 p.m.
