St. Mary's University win their 4th game over Briercrest College Men

St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team were looking for consistent team play. In the Friday night contest versus the Caronport, Saskatchewan Briercrest College, they had four good quarters.

1st Quarter - Lightning had scoring from Jordan Britton (12 points) followed by Cordell Minnifee with 2- 3 point shots. and Briercrest's Brolin Simes had contributed with 5 of their 15 !st quarter points. StMU had opened up a 8 point lead

2nd Quarter - Little more contribution from Minniffee, but the remaining starting 5 pick up the pace and gave the Lightning another 16 point quarter. The Clippers had 5 players give them their 12 points in the quarter. St. Mary's had increased their lead to 12 point and feleing pretty good going into the 2nd half of this home series.

3rd quarter - This was the Joshua Matosevic and Ryan Tod's scoring quarter.  Both players combined 10 of the 19 points in the quarter. Simes continued to score for the Clippers to mount a comeback or cut the lead but the Lightning had increased their lead by 13 points

4th quarter - 26 more points to Briercrest 17 points. St. Mary's were finding their groove with 3 of the orginial starting five scoring for a combined 12 points. Briercrest had no answers to stop Britton or Minnifee in their strangle hold on the fourth victory of the year.

 

Couch Ruff stated that "he was encouraged by the team play and found the consistancy that they had been looking for all season' Coach also stated that tomorrow's game will be a different contest. Briercrest will make adjustments"

Teams return to action on Saturday January 26 on Glenmore Christian Academy gym. Tip off at 5pm.
