MBB | Broncos stun Kodiaks with comeback
Jan. 18, 2018 - In a game with more twists and turns than a game of snake, the Olds College Broncos stunned the Lethbridge College Kodiaks with a comeback 82-74 victory at the Val Matteotti Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Kodiaks started the game by picking up where they left off last night, jumping out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter on the strength of seven points from Tom Johnson.
After shooting just 16% in the first, the Broncos eventually caught fire and chipped away at the Kodiaks lead. Eleven second quarter points from Linden Jackson helped the Broncos get back into game, and Lethbridge led just 36-32 at half.
Olds exploded for 32 points in the third quarter, with Samuel Willis III scoring nine of his game high 22 points in the frame to help build a Broncos lead.
Trailing by nine going into the fourth, the Kodiaks used a 12-3 run opening the fourth quarter to briefly tie the game, before Olds was able to pull away with a late surge.
Grady Taylor and Keanu Funa led the Kodiaks offensively, landing 17 and 15 points respectively.
Willis III was a force off the bench, adding five rebounds and five assists to high 22 points. Paolo de Soto-Parente and Linden Jackson also added 16 points each for Olds.
The Kodiaks will now use the week to regroup and prepare for critical games against second place Medicine Hat. Lethbridge will travel to the Hat for Friday night's game, before returning home on Saturday for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
