Lions and Lightning Clash in Home Opener

It was an electric atmosphere in the Home Opener for the Ambrose Lions as they took on the St. Mary's Lightning. The Ambrose Lions showed their great improvement through the off-season as they competed hard and pushed the #9 nationally ranked St. Mary's Lightning through the first half, being down 47-35 at the half.

In the second half, St. Mary's execution rose to a new level and they pulled away, leaving the home team Lions down 59 to 94 as the buzzer sounded.

Notable performances were Montana Romeril from STMU who was the Lightning Player of the Game, and Catherine Montes, who was feisty on defense with multiple steals and dynamic on offense with 20 points and 3 assists.  Her play earned her the Lions Player of the Game.

A loud and rowdy crowd, led by the rockin' "Hype Kitchen," left the gym happy as they watched their home team Lions beat the STMU Lightning 104 to 63 in the Men's Home Opener at the Den. The Lions played well as a unit, had great chemistry on offense, and ultimately had too many weapons for the Lightning to handle.

Led by returning All-Canadian Kyler Shula and phenomenal two-way play by Dyson Surmik, the Lions increased their lead steadily through the game. Dyson Surmik was Player of the Game for the Ambrose Lions and Cordell Minnifee (with 16 points scored) was Player of the Game for the St. Mary's Lightning.

Next for the Lions, they make the treck out to Briercrest next weekend to play the Clippers as well as make at stop in Medicine Hat.  They are back at home in the Lions Den Nov. 19 where they will take on the Lethbridge Kodiaks!
