2025 ACAC Curling Winter Regionals Recap
Collegiate curling took center stage at the Thistle Curling Club this weekend as the Winter Regional brought together seven top-tier programs: NAIT, SAIT, Red Deer Polytechnic, Concordia University of Edmonton, U of A Augustana, Portage College, and Lakeland College. From nail-biting finishes to perfectly executed shots, fans were treated to thrilling displays of skill and strategy as teams battled for a spot in the ACAC Championship tournament. Here's a look at what happened over the weekend for each division.
Women's Division
The Women's Division saw the Concordia Thunder and SAIT Trojans lead the weekend with 4-1 records. The Red Deer Queens finished 3-2, while the Augustana Vikings and Lakeland Rustlers tied at 2-3. The NAIT Ooks closed out the division finishing 0-5.
After the two regionals SAIT and Red Deer are tied for first place with identical 8-2 records with Concordia behind them at 7-3. The final spot for the ACAC Championship came down to a tiebreaker game between Augustana and Lakeland, where the Rustlers came out on top with a 10-1 victory and took the final championship tournament spot.
Men's Division
SAIT led the Men's Division this weekend, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record. The Red Deer Kings also enjoyed success going 3-1 in the regional and NAIT ended the weekend in the top three with a 2-2 record. Rounding out the rest of the division was Lakeland at 1-3, and Augustana at 0-4.
With both regionals now complete, it's the Trojans who currently hold the first-place position with a 7-1 record. Following behind them are the Kings at 6-2, the Rustlers at 4-4, the Ooks at 3-5, and the Vikings at 0-8.
Mixed Division
It was a very evenly matched regional for the Mixed Division with SAIT leading the charge at 3-1. There was a three-way tie for second between Concordia, Red Deer, and Lakeland, all finishing 2-2 over the weekend. Portage College was right behind them at 1-3.
Looking at the records over the two regionals, SAIT once again takes the top spot at 6-2 with Red Deer a close second at 5-3. It's a two-way tie for third as Concordia and Lakeland both hold 4-4 records. Portage finishes in fifth going 1-7.
As the second tournament of the year comes to a close, the focus now shifts to the ACAC Championships. Hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic, the three-day championship runs from February 7th-9th as teams from each division battle for the chance at an 2025 ACAC title and a potential berth into the CCAA Championships later in February.
