Evan Van Amsterdam Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Men’s Curling Player of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (FEBRUARY 20, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Evan Van Amsterdam of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Male Curling Player of the Year.

The Thunder men's curling team finished the regular season in first place with an impressive 8-2 record. The second year Bachelor of Management student from Edmonton, AB led the Thunder men's curling team to an ACAC Gold Medal defeating the Red Deer Kings 8-5 in Camrose, AB. This would be the second ACAC Gold Medal for Evan in his young ACAC career.

 Thunder Athletics Director, Joel Mrak spoke highly of his second year skip, "We have really admired the work ethic and leadership that Evan has brought to our curling program over the past two years. Watching him compete and have fun with his teammates has been an absolute pleasure. Evan is very deserving of this recognition and we look forward to supporting his continued success in our curling program."

The Thunder men's curling team has qualified for the CCAA Curling Championships that will be held on Mar 24-28, 2018 in Leduc, AB.

This prestigious award was presented to Evan Van Amsterdam at the 2018 ACAC Curling Championship held on February 16-18, 2018 in Camrose, AB.
