2023 Badminton Championships - Individual Events

EDMONTON, AB (February 19th, 2023) – This weekend, the Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the 2023 ACAC Badminton Championships. An incredible weekend of badminton with many milestones made for the CUE Thunder, SAIT Trojans, TKU Eagles, and the NAIT Ooks. 

On Saturday afternoon, the Badminton Championships moved onto the Men's and Women's Singles event. In the Women's Singles, Johnna Rymes (CUE) takes the first place position winning straight two's all the way to the final against teammate Jasleen Kaur who earned the second place position. 

Women's Singles

In the Men's Singles, Narayan Ramdhani (TKU) takes the first-place position winning the first two games in two. He went up against Trojans Sanskar Chopra in the final game and came alive in the 3rd to win with scores of 17-21, 21-14, 21-4.

On Sunday, the Championships moved into the doubles events. In the women's event, Eagles Abby Ledda and Cecilia Wolski went up against Ooks Noel Do and Sylvie Bibeau for the final match. TKU earned the first place position for women's doubles scoring 21-12, 21-6.

In the Men's Doubles, the Trojans and Eagles fought their way to the final game. Trojans Sanskar Chopra and Jason Chiu took on Emmanuel Duguay and Anthony Olson. Each set came close at 23-21, and 24-22, but the SAIT Trojans took the 1st place in two.

The final event of the championships weekend was Mixed Doubles. An exciting way to finish the tournament, where Thunder players Jonathan Su and Jasleen Kaur went up against Ooks players Davis Wong and Ivy Ung. After two back and forth sets, they were tied and went to a third. A few great plays by NAIT won them the Mixed Doubles Gold.
