2023 ACAC Badminton Coach of the Year | Alan Chow

Edmonton, AB (February 18, 2023) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Alan Chow of the NAIT Ooks has been named the ACAC Badminton Coach of the Year.

Alan Chow is a second-year Head Coach for the NAIT Ooks. In his first season as Head Coach, the NAIT Ooks qualified seven of their ten athletes to compete at the CCAA Nationals. NAIT Ooks men’s singles player Smit Patel reigned victoriously and brought home CCAA gold with Chow by his side.

Chow is no stranger to collegiate-level sports, as he played two years of college badminton, one with NAIT and the other with Concordia. He made nationals both times, coming in second place. His introduction to badminton came at an early age, training at the Derrick Club and playing tournaments across Alberta as one of the top juniors. After his junior years, he kept training and has played numerous open and, more currently, the Masters tournaments, still ranking as one of the top players in Alberta. He is passionate about the sport and enjoys connecting with those in the badminton community.

“Alan really cares about his student-athletes and genuinely wants to see them succeed both in life and on the court. In only his second year coaching the team, Alan had earned the respect of his players and fellow coaches and is very deserving of this award,” said NAIT Athletics Director, Jordan Richey.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Badminton Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton.
