TKU Eagles Win Gold at ACAC Badminton Team Event

Olds, AB (March 5, 2022) -  The 2022 ACAC Badminton Championships took place at the Ralph Klein Centre on the campus of Olds College in Olds, AB. The tournament saw the host Olds College Broncos compete alongside the Concordia University Thunder, NAIT Ooks, and The King's University Eagles.

Day one of badminton team competition saw the team semifinals and finals that had The King's University Eagles take the top spot on the podium followed by the NAIT Ooks in second place and the Concordia University Thunder in third.

In semifinal 1, The King's University Eagles defeated the Olds Broncs, 5-1 while in the semifinal 2, the NAIT Ooks edged out Concordia Thunder, 4-2 for the last gold medal competitor. 

In the bronze medal matches, OC took the first men's singles match but CUE overwhelmed the Broncos winning the next 4 in a row, ending the match 4-1 in favour of Concordia. 

In the close gold medal event, NAIT and TKU fought a close match throughout the event.  NAIT took the first men's singles match but King's came back and won the 1st women's singles matchup.  The Eagles won the went up taking the men & women's matches.  NAIT stormed back with two wins in the mixed doubles and the 2nd men's singles match.  Breaking the tie, would be the second women's match with Cecilia Wolski running away with it, 21-8, 21-8 giving TKU Eagles their first badminton team event gold in school history. 

It was a great first day of badminton competition!
