CCAA Nationals for Badminton see strong showing from ACAC
For the third consecutive year- in- a- row the talents within Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) badminton ranks have captured the Triple Threat of Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton with Team Supremacy to go along with Male and Female Badminton Players of the Year.
This year the nationals were back in Ontario with the University of Toronto Mississauga hosting at the UTM Recreation, Athletics & Wellness Centre.
2019-2020 CCAA Women's Badminton Player of the Year was, for the third-year-in-a-row, Takeisha Wang of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder while CCAA Men's Badminton Player of the Year honours went to Roymond Kim of the NAIT Ooks.
Coach of the Year for the CCAA Badminton was Kevin MacAlpine, Concordia Thunder.
In 2018-2019 at the CCAA Badminton nationals held in Truro, Nova Scotia and hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, Male and Female Badminton Player of the Year honours went to the brother-sister combo of Desmond Wang and Takeisha Wang of Concordia University of Edmonton.
In 2017-2018 with Concordia hosting the national nod for the male and female player, went to Imrand Wadia of the NAIT Ooks and Takeisha Wang once again.
Previous to this, the last time the ACAC took the Triple Crown was in 2005 with Team Supremacy, and Helen Nichol of Mount Royal College and Jonathan Vandervet of Concordia University College of Alberta honoured.

Mixed Team
Gold Medal Game: Eyota Kwan and Alexander Fung (NAIT Ooks) kept their foot on the gas, winning the first set of the match. Poy Lo and Christine Nguyen (Seneca College) fought hard to overcome the Alberta powerhouse but fell short of the gold medal (21-12, 22-20, 21-17). Kwan and Fung remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
Bronze Medal Game: Luc-Ly Nguyen and Connie Juang (NAIT) rose above CCAA veteran Victoria Duong and Desmond Chan (Humber College) to capture CCAA bronze.
Men's Doubles
Bronze Medal Game: 2019 CCAA bronze medalists Arpit Taneja and Ayubu Touray (Humber College) defended their title, winning 21-8, 21-17, 21-17 over Braxton Wong and Nicolas Pittman (Concordia University of Edmonton, ACAC).
Women's Doubles
Gold Medal Game: Three-time CCAA champion and All-Canadian, Chloe Rowe and Susanna Quach (Humber College) defeated Jasleen Kaur and Johnna Rymes (Concordia University of Edmonton) in two straight sets (21-18, 21-14) to capture gold. This will be Rowe's fourth podium appearance.
Bronze Medal Game: Fiona Purdy and Katherine Zhu (University of King's College, ACAA) battled hard taking the match into three sets but fell to Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung (NAIT, ACAC Wildcard) who secured CCAA bronze.
Women's Singles
Gold Medal Game: First-year Huyen Le (George Brown) won in a three-set battle of the best against CCAA champion and 2020 CCAA Women's Badminton Player of the Year, Takeisha Wang (Concordia University of Edmonton) in 45-minutes of nail-biting, chest-clutching action. Wang was the only one to hand Le a set loss over three days. Le remained undefeated (7-0), holding her opponents to two sets throughout the tournament. Wang captured CCAA gold last year in mixed doubles. Pairing up with her brother Desmond Wang.
Bronze Medal Game: 2019 CCAA silver medalist, Anh Hoang (George Brown College) won in three sets against first-year Priyanna Ramdhani (Olds College) to take CCAA bronze.
Men's Singles
Bronze medal match: Roymond Kim (NAIT) made the CCAA podium, winning 21-8, 21-11 against Narayan Ramdhani (King's University). Ramdhani won bronze last year.
