Takeisha Wang Honoured as 2019-20 ACAC Female Badminton Player of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (February 19, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Takeisha Wang of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Female Badminton Player of the Year (POY) sponsored by Badminton Alberta.

The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder badminton team finished the 2019-20 ACAC regular season in first place with 497 points after three tournaments. The 5th year veteran had an outstanding season for the Thunder having gone a perfect 6-0 in women's singles competition, 4-0 in women's doubles competition and 5-1 in mixed doubles competition

After using all five years of her eligibility at Concordia University of Edmonton it will be a bittersweet moment for Director of Athletics and Recreation, Joel Mrak, to see Takeisha compete in her final ACAC Championship stating, "Takeisha has been phenomenal during her 5 years at CUE, and this season was no exception as she was dominant across the ACAC. She will be leaving a legacy as one of the all-time badminton greats in the ACAC and CCAA as she goes after her 3rd straight CCAA National Championship this year."

In the past four seasons, Takeisha has claimed a CCAA medal across three different categories. She won the women's doubles bronze in 2016, women's singles silver in 2017, and women's singles gold in 2018 followed by a mixed doubles gold in 2019. Takeisha has built a very impressive resume as a two time CCAA Player of the Year, four-time ACAC Female Badminton Player of the year, two-time ACAC Athlete of the Year, three-time CCAA All-Canadian and four-time CCAA Academic All-Canadian. As a top contender once again, Takeisha will look to expand her medal collection at the upcoming ACAC conference championships hosted by NAIT on February 22-23, 2020.

This prestigious award was presented to Takeisha Wang at the 2019-2020 ACAC Badminton Championship awards banquet held on February 22, 2020, at NAIT Campus.
