2026 ACAC Indoor Track Coach of the Year

Edmonton, AB (March 18, 2026) –

INDOOR TRACK COACH OF THE YEAR, MATTHEW NORMINTON: 

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Matthew Norminton of the Concordia Thunder has been named the 2026 ACAC Indoor Track Coach of the Year.

Norminton has led the Thunder cross country and indoor track programs since 2009, bringing a wealth of competitive and coaching experience to the program. A former standout athlete himself, Norminton earned ACAC individual and team cross country silver medals in 1997 before continuing his career at the USport level, where he was a team and individual cross country silver medalist and part of a Canada West and national championship-winning 4x800m relay team in 2000. He later competed professionally in Europe for five years and finished second at the Canadian Marathon Championships in 2007.

Under his leadership, the Thunder delivered a strong performance at the 2026 ACAC Indoor Track Championships, hosted at the Kinsmen Sports Centre. The program earned multiple podium finishes and conference honours, with the men’s team placing second overall and the women’s team finishing third, while several athletes captured individual medals and All-Conference recognition throughout the championship meet.
