2025 ACAC Cross-Country Rookies of the Year
Edmonton, AB (October 28, 2025) –
Female Rookie of the Year | PHEONIX ASPREY | Medicine Hat Rattlers:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Pheonix Asprey of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Female Cross-Country Running Rookie of the Year.
With three top-5 finishes in her first three races, Pheonix Asprey has firmly established herself as the leading rookie runner in the ACAC this season. Her consistent performances earned her the ACAC Female Rookie of the Year title and helped the Rattlers secure the Women’s Team Silver Medal at the ACAC Championships. Asprey’s dedication and drive have helped her team qualify for the CCAA National Championships, where they will represent the Medicine Hat College Rattlers among Canada’s best collegiate runners.
Coach Bill Corcoran shared that “Co-coach Sean and I really worked hard on recruiting local athletes this year. We were fortunate to sign all of the best women runners from the four local high schools from last year. Pheonix was fastest of the lot.
Phoenix had a phenomenal rookie season with top finishes in each ACAC race she contested this year. She worked very hard in practice all season, running with our top guys in workouts. She did, however, miss one Saturday workout where she was out chasing cattle for one of her family friends. Apparently, running down cows is an effective training modality. Who knew?
Her signature look is running in basketball shorts. Hopefully, we've now convinced her that she's a X-Country kid, not a Basketball kid. She is a pleasure to coach and a fantastic teammate. Phoenix has a bright future in the sport.”
Hailing from Medicine Hat, Pheonix is in her first year of General Studies. After having a successful season in Alberta she will try to repeat the same in Prince Edward Island for the 2025 CCAA Cross-Country Nationals.
This prestigious award was recognized at the 2025 ACAC Cross-Country Running Championship hosted by Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie, Alberta
Male Rookie of the Year | LOGAN PANCOAST | Medicine Hat Rattlers:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Logan Pancoast of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Male Cross-Country Running Rookie of the Year.
Pancoast had a very successful start in the ACAC, earning a podium finish in his first-ever race. Across his first three Running Room Prix events, he consistently placed within the top five. At the 2025 ACAC Cross-Country Championships, Logan secured seventh place, achieving the best combined result for the Rattlers Running program. With that result, Logan qualified individually to compete on the national stage in Prince Edward Island during the second weekend of November.
Coach Bill Corcoran shared that “As the 6th place finisher at last year's ASAA High School Provincial Cross Country Championships, Logan is the highest ranked recruit in our program's history. We had high expectations for him this season, and he delivered.
Logan is a fearless competitor. He's not afraid to go out fast and try to hang on to the leaders, who are much older and much more experienced. It's fun to watch him race.
Logan is a top student and aspires to be a veterinarian. He is a master at balancing a heavy training load, challenging academic program and several other extra-curricular activities. He is a great role model for other student-athletes in terms of academic performance, athletic excellence, and exemplary time management. We are lucky to have him on our team this year.”
Hailing from Strathmore, AB, Logan is in his first year of the Paramedic program. A surprising name in the league during his first season, he will definitely be someone to keep an eye on next year.
