South Female Rookie of the Year | NICOLY SOUZA | Medicine Hat Rattlers:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Nicoly Souza of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers has been selected as the 2025 ACAC South Female Rookie of the Year Rookie of the Year.
It does not look like Nicoly felt much difference after moving from Brazil to study and play soccer in Canada. In her first weekend playing at the ACAC level, she scored two goals in two games, added two more in the following match, and later recorded a hat trick. Nicoly led the Rattlers in goals and assists for the season, with 8 goals and 4 assists.
As an extremely fast player on the wing, Nicoly became a nightmare for defenders, forcing defensive lines to drop and creating space for her team. With excellent technique, Nicoly was able to drive the ball down the wing and consistently end up in 1v1 situations with defenders, leading either to an assist inside the box or a clear shot on net.
Terry Ballard, Medicine Hat College Rattlers Manager of Athletics and Recreation, shared that “Nicoly came to Medicine Hat College and Rattlers women’s soccer by way of Brazil and is an international student-athlete. Nicoly is a dynamic soccer player with great skill and a nose for the net to score goals. She is very quick, often beating defenders to the ball and able to make plays quickly to get the ball towards the net for a scoring chance. As a first-year player, Nicoly has come in and made a significant contribution to Rattlers women’s soccer and helped the team to their first winning season in several years. We look forward to watching Nicoly develop and grow as a student-athlete right along with the growth of the Rattlers women’s soccer program.”
Hailing from Joinville, Brazil, Nicoly is in her first year of the Business Administration Diploma program. From being a surprise for defenders during the 2025-26 season, Nicoly is now definitely a name to keep an eye on for next season.
This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women's Championship hosted by Lethbridge Polytechnic in Lethbridge, AB.
The Rookie of the Year award is proudly sponsored by Alberta Soccer.
