2025 ACAC Men's Futsal Rookies of The Year

Edmonton, AB (March 8, 2025) – 

North Male Rookie of the Year | PATRICK CULSHAW | NAIT Ooks:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Patrick Culshaw of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Men’s Futsal North Rookie of the Year.

Patrick, a standout rookie, has made an immediate and significant impact on the Ooks men’s futsal team with his skill, versatility, and composure on the ball. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has been crucial to the team’s success. Patrick’s defensive reliability has provided a strong foundation for his teammates, allowing the attacking players to take more risks while knowing he’s there to help cover any errors. On the offensive side, he has proven to be a constant threat, whether charging forward from deep positions or creating key opportunities for his teammates.

NAIT men's futsal head coach Jeff Paulus praised Patrick’s remarkable contributions: "On a team of rookies, Patrick stood out for having such a large impact on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he is very good and allowed the front players to take chances, knowing that he is there to cover for any mistakes. On the ball, he is an offensive threat to attack from deep positions. A threat to score or make the killer pass, Patrick has had a phenomenal campaign thus far."

Patrick, a first-year player from Edmonton, Alberta, has demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill in his performances, and he is sure to play a key role in the team’s future success.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Men’s Futsal Championship hosted by Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alberta.


South Male Rookie of the Year | Fabian Guzman-Nunez | SAIT Trojans:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Fabian Guzman-Nunez of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2025 ACAC South Men’s Futsal Rookie of the Year. 

Despite being part of a young, short-benched team, Fabian Guzman emerged as a standout player for the SAIT Trojans this futsal season, scoring 12 goals in 8 games. His contributions were integral to the Trojans’ growth throughout a challenging season. Fabi rose to the occasion as a leader, maintaining his composure during difficult moments and guiding the team through early-season setbacks. His perseverance and leadership qualities were pivotal in keeping the Trojans competitive and motivated, ensuring steady growth despite adversity. Both his offensive and defensive contributions were vital to the Trojans’ performance, and his ability to perform under pressure showcased his impressive skill set. 

"As a rookie, Fabi has a futsal IQ that is well beyond his years. His quick thinking and adaptability set him apart. Fabi brings a light-hearted approach to the team, while continually pushing his teammates to be better. We’re thrilled to see Fabi recognized and can’t wait to watch his growth in the years ahead. Fabian Guzman, from Calgary, AB is currently in Open Studies at SAIT. Outside of futsal, he has demonstrated strong ability in the men’s soccer season where he helped the Trojans secure an ACAC bronze medal, further cementing his status as a dedicated and versatile athlete. His impressive performance this season reflects his commitment, hard work, and leadership both on and off the field.
