2025 ACAC Women's Futsal Rookies of The Year

Edmonton, AB (March 7, 2025) – 

North Female Rookie of the Year | JYLA ERANDIO | NAIT Ooks:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jyla Erandio of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Women’s Futsal North Rookie of the Year.

Jyla, a standout rookie, has made an immediate and lasting impact on the team with her skill, determination, and infectious energy. Her technical ability, versatility, and consistency on the field have made her one of the most impactful players for the Ooks. Whether creating scoring opportunities, contributing to defense, or controlling the pace of the game, Jyla’s performances have been nothing short of impressive. Her presence has been integral to the team's success, elevating the level of play and pushing her teammates to perform at their best.

NAIT women's futsal head coach Dhee Govender praised Jyla’s contributions: "From day one, Jyla has brought an amazing energy and determination to our team. As a rookie, she has adapted quickly to the demands of the game, showcasing exceptional technical ability and maintaining strong performances that have made her a vital part of the team. Her vibrant spirit, commitment to learning, and skill on the ball have significantly impacted our team's dynamic, inspiring everyone to elevate their performance."

Jyla’s achievements and contributions to the Ooks women’s futsal program highlight her dedication, and as a first-year player from Edmonton, Alberta, she will undoubtedly continue to be a key part of the team's future success.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Futsal Championship hosted by Lakeland College in Lloydminster, Alberta.


South Female Rookie of the Year | MCKENNA LESLIE | Red Deer Queens:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce McKenna Leslie of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Women’s Futsal South Rookie of the Year. 

“I want to congratulate McKenna on receiving this prestigious acknowledgement. In her first ACAC season, McKenna has been a key contributor to the RDP Queens Futsal team, playing with skill, poise and confidence,” says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. “With her dedication and hard work, McKenna’s impact with the Queens will continue to grow.” 

Red Deer’s Leslie and the young Queens Futsal team earned two wins and a pair of ties during the ACAC season. With tremendous offensive instincts, she generated many scoring opportunities throughout the season. Leslie will be an integral component of continuing to grow the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Futsal program during the next few years. 

Leslie also had a tremendous soccer season for the RDP Queens, recording six goals and nine assists in 12 games. The first-year Bachelor of Education student was named to the 2024/2025 ACAC Women’s Soccer South All-Conference team.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Futsal Championship hosted by Lakeland College from March 7-9 in Lloydminster, Alberta.
