2025 ACAC Women's Basketball Rookies of The Year

2025 ACAC Women's Basketball Rookies of The Year

Edmonton, AB (February 27, 2025) –

North Female Rookie of the Year | DIOR SELLARS | NAIT Ooks:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Dior Sellers of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2024-2025 ACAC North Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year.

Dior Sellers has had an outstanding first season with the NAIT Ooks. Sellers made an immediate impact, playing in 18 regular-season games and earning a starting spot in 16 of them, a testament to her talent and work ethic.

Throughout the season, Sellers logged 477 minutes on the court, contributing 122 points, 46 assists, and 32 steals, proving to be a versatile and dynamic player on both ends of the floor. Her ability to step into a key role as a rookie has been a crucial factor in the Ooks' success this season.

NAIT head coach Kiera Lyons spoke highly of Sellers' growth and character, stating: "Dior is a special athlete and an even better person. She stepped into a demanding role with the grace and maturity of a much older player and has amazed us with her growth. She has learned tough lessons and found amazing success over the last six months, and we could not be prouder of her. I know writing this that her teammates have already lost their minds because it's impossible not to be excited for the person that Dior is. She is a talented basketball player, but her skill doesn't compare to her character, and we can't wait to watch her grow as an Ook."

The first-year Bachelor of Business Administration student from Okotoks, Alberta, has already proven to be a key piece of the Ooks' future. Her determination, skill, and leadership will continue to make her a force in the ACAC for years to come.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship hosted by the King's Eagles in Edmonton, AB from February 28 - March 2, 2025.

The Player of the Year award is proudly sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supplies.

South Female Rookie of the Year | HALLE ALEMAN | Lethbridge Kodiaks:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Halle Aleman of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks has been selected as the 2024-2025 ACAC Women’s Basketball South Division Rookie of the Year.

“Halle was petitioned to play the point guard position out of necessity and handled the pressure that comes with this quarterback position very well for a freshman, even though this wasn’t her natural position”, says head coach Ken McMurray. “Halle is an unselfish player and values when her teammates do well.”

“What an amazing achievement for Halle to earn” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics Director. “Halle stepped into the program and made an immediate impact. Its hard to believe she is a rookie student athlete!”

Aleman graduated from Immanuel Christian high school and is from Lethbridge, Alberta. She is enrolled in the Open Studies program.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship hosted by the King's Eagles in Edmonton, AB from February 28 - March 2, 2025.
