Edmonton, AB (February 27, 2025) –

North Female Defensive Player of the Year | MACKENZIE MRAZIK | Augustana Vikings:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Mackenzie Mrazik of the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings has been selected as the 2024-2025 ACAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.

After a 6-14 season, the Vikings narrowly missed out on a spot in the championships. Mrazik played a pivotal role in their success, leading the team in both rebounds and points. She was also a crucial part of the historic 2022/23 Vikings squad that secured second place at the ACAC Championships and fifth at CCAA Nationals. Now a three-time all-conference athlete, Mrazik is the first player to receive ACAC Defensive Player of the Year.

“Mackenzie is one of the most dominant players offensively and defensively in the league. She demonstrated composure, poise and confidence on the court throughout the season. Her recognition is well-deserved and is a testament to the hard work she puts in, both on and off the court. Not only is she a great player but she is also an amazing leader, who has a level of understanding towards her teammates and knows how to elevate the room with her articulation of communication between the coaches and players. Mackenzie may be humble, but her presence on the court is well known, and everyone in the league recognizes the impact she has. She transforms our program, both on and off the court. These accolades are just a small part of who she actually is and Mackenzie is  capable of reaching new heights come next season.” - Lauren Cardinal, Head Coach of Vikings Women's Basketball.

Mackenzie is from Edmonton Alberta in her fourth year of studies working towards her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship hosted by the King's Eagles in Edmonton, AB from February 28 - March 2, 2025.

In 21 games, Maitlynn recorded two triple-doubles and 13 double-doubles, showcasing her ability to fill the stat sheet night after night. Whether disrupting opponents with her quick hands, finding teammates with precision passing, or attacking the rim, she was a constant force on the court.

Maitlynn’s ability to influence the game in every aspect—offense, defense, and leadership—made her one of the most dominant players in the ACAC this season. With her resilience, skill, and competitive drive, she’s just getting started.

“Maitlynn is the heart and soul of our team and the driving force behind our defensive success. She leads the ACAC in steals because of her incredible instincts, but it’s her relentless energy and accountability that set the tone for everyone around her. On top of that, she’s one of the top scorers, rebounders, and playmakers in the conference, making an impact in every aspect of the game. Her resilience after overcoming injuries shows just how tough and determined she is. We’re proud of her leadership, work ethic, and the way she elevates this team every single day.”
