2022-2023 ACAC Women's Overall Rookie of the Year
Edmonton, AB (April 13, 2023) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Hailey Carothers of the Lakeland Rustlers Women's Hockey team has been selected as the 2022-2023 ACAC Women’s Overall Rookie of the Year. This prestigious award is sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supply.
Hailey Carothers' rookie season stood out above the rest in the 2023 ACAC season. The first-year forward from Lac La Biche was named the Female Rookie of the Year across all ACAC sports. This achievement comes after she was named to the ACAC All-Conference squad and received both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year awards in women’s hockey.
Carothers earned these accolades by leading the league in goals (19), points (27), power-play goals (4), and hat-tricks (2). She helped lead Lakeland’s hockey team to a playoff berth and a bronze medal finish in its first ACAC campaign. Rustlers Head Coach Morgan Mann attributed Carothers' success to her quick adaptation to the college game.
“Hailey adapted to the speed and skill of the ACAC quickly,” Mann said. “She is a gifted natural athlete with exceptional offensive skills.”
In February, the rookie forward had her best performance of the season, scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 9-3 victory over the SAIT Trojans. She also scored her team's only goal in their final game of the year, a 3-1 loss to the eventual champion RDP Queens.
Mann noted that Carothers' passion for the game is a significant factor in her potential for further success.
“She will continue to improve as a player because of her strong work ethic and willingness to learn,” he said. “But most importantly, she loves the game!”
Hailey Carothers, the 2023 ACAC Female Rookie of the Year, is enrolled in Lakeland's University Transfer program.
