2022-23 ACAC Women's Cross-Country Rookie of the Year

Edmonton, AB (November 2, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Makenna Fitzgerald of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Women's Cross-Country Runner of the Year.

After winning the first Grand Prix event of the season, the fourth-year runner from Kamloops, BC missed the remainder of the season with a foot injury. At the ACAC Championships, Fitzgerald made her return to the trails and promptly picked up where she left off – winning the women’s individual title for the second straight year. She also earned an ACAC All-Conference nod for her efforts.

“We are very proud of the way Makenna battled to get herself ready in order to defend her ACAC title following the injury she sustained in early September,” said Wade Kolmel, SAIT Director of Athletics and Recreation. “She put in the work and it paid off for her. We wish her continued success as she now looks to defend her CCAA national title in Medicine Hat.”

Makenna Fitzgerald is a Diagnostic Medical Sonography student at SAIT.

This prestigious award was recognized at the 2022 ACAC Cross-Country Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton in Edmonton, Alberta.
