2022-23 ACAC Women's Golfer of The Year
Edmonton, AB (September 28, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Ella Gifford of the CUE Thunder has been selected as the 2022-23 Women’s Golfer of the Year.
Gifford entered the 2022-23 Golf season new to the ACAC, but didn’t take long to make her mark. She walked away from the 2022 North Regional in first place, finishing with a 12 stroke lead, and she finished tied for first place at the South Regional.
At the ACAC Championships, Gifford ran away with the first two rounds, finishing round one with a five stroke lead, and round two with a four stroke lead. She came in second in the third and final round, but she built up enough of a lead through the first two days to maintain her spot at the top of the leader board and win the 2022 Women’s Individual Title by six strokes. Her contributions also helped Concordia claim the bronze medal in the Women’s and Mixed Team categories.
“What Ella has done in her first year has been incredible, she deserves this honour” said Director of Athletics & Recreation Nate MacLellan. “Being named ACAC Golfer of the Year is an incredible accomplishment. Ella has already become a great role model not only for the golf program but also for the entire Thunder Athletics department. I look forward to watching her develop as an athlete and individual, the future is bright for her. Congrats, Ella!”
Gifford hails from Beaumont, Alberta and is in her second year of a Bachelor of Science degree.
This prestigious award was recognized at the 2022 ACAC Golf Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton in Edmonton, Alberta.
