2021-22 ACAC Coaching Excellence Award

Edmonton, AB (April 06, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Chris King of the Lakeland Rustlers Women’s Basketball team has been named the ACAC Coaching Excellence Award winner across all ACAC Sports.

King, a train to compete certified coach, has led the Rustlers for the past 14 seasons has also engaged in numerous professional development opportunities through Golden Ticket Sports, which is a player and coach development company he is part owner in. In the 2018 – 2019 season, King led the Rustlers to their first ACAC medal winning a bronze. In 2019 – 2020 the Rustlers secured their first league championship and repeated that feat in the 2021 – 2022 season. King also guided Lakeland to its first National Championship appearance and a CCAA Bronze medal.

“Chris has developed strong women’s basketball program over the years,” commented Alan Rogan, Lakeland’s athletic director. “His dedication to the student athletes and the sport of basketball shows in the respect the program and he has gained locally, provincially and nationally.”

King previously worked with both the Alberta and Saskatchewan Provincial Basketball programs filling roles as assistant and head coach on multiple provincial teams as well as a Canada games team. He also coordinates the Rustlers Youth Basketball program in Lloydminster that focuses on the development of skills predominantly in children from kindergarten to grade 7 and runs a basketball academy. During the summer King also oversees the Rustlers Club Basketball program and multiple summer camps in the Lloydminster community.

King and the entire women’s basketball team are looking forward to the championships and will be working hard to earn another berth to the national championship.
