2021-22 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Rookies of the Year

North Rookie of The Year:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Avery Bates of the Lakeland Rustlers has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Women's Volleyball North Rookie of the Year (Sponsored by Volleyball Alberta).
Avery helped the Rustlers Volleyball Program to a 14-2 regular season record and top spot in the North Division. During the regular season Avery played in 54 sets and ended league play accumulating 3.4 points per set. Her individual stat totals had her finishing the regular season at 2.67 kills/set, 0.11 aces/set, 2.19 digs/set, and 0.61 blocks/set.
"Avery is a light and fun personality to have in the gym," commented Head Coach Austin Dyer, "She is a very positive athlete, which is contagious to be around. She can combine that with a work ethic that ensures she shows up every day trying to improve and get better. I am very excited to see what the future holds for Avery as a volleyball player and for the Rustler Women's Volleyball Program."
Avery is from Acme, Alberta and currently in her 1st year of eligibility. She is working towards a Science degree at Lakeland College and plans to become a teacher. Congratulations on an outstanding season Avery!
This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic in Red Deer, Alberta.
South Rookie of The Year:
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Alexa Herrod of the Ambrose Lions has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Women's Volleyball South Rookie of the Year (Sponsored by Volleyball Alberta).
Alexa, affectionately called 'Lexi,' has been a standout performer on the Ambrose Lions and amongst her peers in the ACAC South. Quarterbacking her team in the setting position, Lexi elevated her team's offense and made all of the players around her better. With a high volleyball IQ, maturity beyond her years, a soft touch, and excellent setting location, this special student athlete led the young Lions squad to a 3rd place finish in the ACAC South division.
A driven, consistent, and passionate team player, Lexi is a key player that the Lady Lions rally around. Her Head Coach, Barry Heidebrecht, says, "Lexi has been a bright spot to the future of our program. Her competitiveness and love for the game is unmatched. I look forward to her continued development and leadership with the team."
Lexi is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute for High School. She is studying in her first year in the Bachelor of Science in Biology Program at Ambrose University. Congratulations Lexi!!
