Lac La Biche, February 19, 2018 –  Kyle Leach has been selected as the Charles Morter Memorial Award for best exemplifying Chuck's spirit, dedication, sportsmanship and leadership towards fellow curlers.

Kyle is currently in his 5th year of post-secondary eligibility and will be graduating at the end of this month with his fourth certificate/diploma from our institution in that time. He has been able to complete his Natural Resources Technician Certificate, Natural Resources Technician Diploma, 4th Class Power Engineering and at the end of this month will have completed his 3rd Class Power Engineering program.

He has been to accomplish all of this in a short period of time while also finding the time to be on a seven-month work placement for power engineering, drive his own school bus for NLSD #69, helps out on the family farm and volunteers on the Lac La Biche Curling Club executive.

On the executive he is in charge of all scheduling of leagues for the curling club, assists in buying curling supplies for members, assists the local facility operators in ice maintenance as Kyle and his brother Cory were the icemakers for 3 years at the curling club when they moved into the Bold Center. He also helps organize the draw for the mixed spiel that is a fundraiser for the curling club in Lac La Biche.

As a student-athlete, he has skipped the mixed team the past 2 season and his leadership to a younger inexperienced rink shows every year. Kyle assumes the leadership role and works with his teammates to organize practice time as our current mixed team has students from three different campuses, which are 1.5 hours apart from each other. His communication with his young team helps keep them in good spirits when things might not be going the way they are planned.

Kyle also has obtained a level 1 coaching certificate in curling with his aspirations of one day leading his own program in collegiate curling. Over the past 3 years in his ACAC career, he has also been heavily involved organizing and coaching the junior curling program.
