Oscar Miranda Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year
Edmonton, October 26 , 2017 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Oscar Miranda of the NAIT Ooks men's soccer team, has been selected as the 2017 ACAC Rookie of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Alberta Soccer Associaion and provides a student-athlete scholarship.
Oscar's play this season helped lead the NAIT Ooks to a regular season 1st place tie in the North division with the Keyano Huskies (Ooks finished 2nd after tie-break). Both teams posted 9-1 records. Miranda, a 1st year Academic Upgrading student from Edmonton, joined the Ooks after being named an All-Star at this year's Canada Summer Games where he helped lead Team Alberta silver medal. The NAIT midfielder made an immediate impact on his team and the league buy tallying 3 spectacular goals this season.
NAIT Ooks men's soccer head coach Charles O'Toole had the following to say about his rookie student-athlete. "Oscar is without a doubt deserving of this recognition. In only his 1st year with our squad he was instrumental to our team success. He always displays tremendous composure and maturity, especially for his age. His play in the midfield results in him being a solid nucleus for our team. I see a bright future ahead for him with our program".
Oscar and his NAIT Ooks teammates will be in action this weekend at the 2017 ACAC men's soccer championship hosted by NAIT at Emerald Hills Regional Sports Park in Sherwood Park. The Ooks will face the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in quarter-final action Friday. Complete schedule and results can be found on the ACAC website.
