ACAC Honours Ryo Kuramochi as the 2016-17 Women's Badminton Player of the Year
Edmonton, February 18th – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Ryo Kuramochi from NAIT has been selected as the 2016-17 Women's Badminton Player of the Year.
The NAIT Ooks badminton team finished the regular season in 1st place in the ACAC. Ryo, a 2nd year Bachelor of Business Administration student from Chiba, Japan, had a fantastic sophomore season for the Ooks. In the three regular season tournaments, Ryo posted a 5-2 record in women's singles, 3-0 record in women's doubles, and an amazing 8-1 record in mixed-doubles.
NAIT Ooks badminton head coach Sinead Cheah had the following to say about her student-athlete. "Ryo is the perfect team player. She is incredibly supportive and interactive with her teammates and is always eager to learn in practices. Ryo is an example of dedication to other team members, is never one to complain. Her efforts in practices have clearly paid off and are shown in her competition results this year."
Ryo and the NAIT Ooks badminton team will play Saturday in the ACAC team championship semi-final against the Olds College Broncos. The championships are hosted at Olds College this weekend with the team event Saturday and the individual events championships being held Sunday. The top two finishers in each of the 5 events will move on to the CCAA National Championships held March 9-11 at Seneca College in Toronto, ON.
