ACAC Honours Imran Wadia as the 2016-17 Men's Badminton Player of the Year

Edmonton, February 22nd  – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Imran Wadia from NAIT has been selected as the 2016-17 Men's Badminton Player of the Year.

The NAIT Ooks badminton team finished the regular season in 1st place in the ACAC. Imran, a 2nd year Wireless Systems Engineering student from Calgary, AB, had a tremendous season. In the three regular season tournaments, Imran posted a 9-1 singles record and 8-1 doubles record. He was twice selected as ACAC Athlete of the Week.

Imran last played at Langara College in the PACWEST conference two years ago before joining the Ooks this year. In 2015, Imran qualified for the CCAA championships held at the University of King's College in Halifax, NS where he finished 5th in men's doubles.

NAIT Ooks Badminton head coach Sinead Cheah had the following to say about her student-athlete. "Imran's dedication to team support and overall improvement is impeccable. He is accountable and present in practices and is an example for the younger generation members of his team. Imran is always a fair player and his attitude in competition is admirable."

Imran and the NAIT Ooks badminton team will play Saturday in the ACAC team championship semi-final against the Olds College Broncos. The championships are hosted at Olds College this weekend with the team event Saturday and the individual events championships being held Sunday. The top two finishers in each of the 5 events will move on to the CCAA National Championships held March 9-11 at Seneca College in Toronto, ON.
