ACAC Hall of Fame Nominations

ACAC Hall of Fame Nominations

by ACAC Sports Writer Curtis J. Phillips

Edmonton, AB - You can't win the million dollar lotto if you don't buy a ticket?

You can't get into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Hall of Fame if you don't take the first step and get nominated?

With the January 6, 2017 deadline for the Class of 2017 fast approaching, it is time for you to go online and nominate a worthy individual(s) in any of the four categories: Athlete, Builder, Coach and newly added this year, Team.

"In our first year (2014) we knew that we didn't or wouldn't be able to capture everyone's contributions during the last 50 years," said ACAC Chief Executive Officer Mark Kosak, in regards to the May 2014 announcement of 50 inductees coinciding with 50 years of athletic excellence in the ACAC.

(The ACAC was launched in 1964 under the title of Western Inter-College Conference, later changing to ACAC in 1968.)

"We had a fantastic response the first year (2014 gala evening was held May 14 at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton) and we are now going to do this every two years," said Kosak. "We don't believe we'll ever be short of worthy candidates."

The selection committee will be looking at a maximum of eight inductees for each Class year with no set distribution amongst the four categories.

Of adding the additional category for Teams, Kosak said: "We have had teams that have established impressive records and with impressive credentials. There was an acknowledgement that we needed to recognize that as part of our history.

"We left it (criteria) quite broad for selection. You could potentially nominate a single season performance  for a team or for a team that stuck together for a couple of years and established something extraordinary."

Kosak said the Class of 2017 inductee event is scheduled for May 13, 2017 in Calgary.

Who will get in the Class of 2017?

Will it be you? A friend? A colleague? A family member? A former teammate?

Remember you have until January 6, 2017 to get in that nomination!
