Anders Van Amsterdam, NAIT Ooks, Mens Curling
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Anders van Amsterdam delivered an outstanding performance for the NAIT Ooks men’s curling team at the CCAA National Championships in Regina this past weekend.
Van Amsterdam was steady and composed throughout the tournament, putting together a remarkable showing on the national stage. From the opening draw of round robin play, he was locked in and making key shots in crucial moments and providing the consistency the Ooks relied on all weekend long.
After a strong round robin performance, the Ooks punched their ticket to the CCAA semi-finals, where they secured a huge win to advance to the national gold medal game. Van Amsterdam stood on his head throughout the playoff push, helping guide NAIT into the championship final against the undefeated Humber squad.
Although the Ooks ultimately fell short in the gold medal game, their silver medal finish marks a tremendous accomplishment for the program. Van Amsterdam’s efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was named a CCAA Second Team All-Star for his exceptional play throughout the tournament.
A third-year Hospitality Management student from Edmonton, van Amsterdam’s leadership, poise, and clutch shot-making were instrumental in NAIT’s national silver medal run.
