Jacob Wozney, Red Deer Kings, Men's Hockey

What an offensive explosion from forward Jacob Wozney this past weekend that helped his team leap into the championship final.

It all started on Friday night when the Kings took on the Concordia University Thunder in Game 1 of the semi-finals. Wozney would pick up a goal in a 5-4 triple overtime loss in Red Deer which put the Kings in a do-or-die situation on Saturday night.

The Richmond native would pick up another goal to make it two goals in two games. But it was the timing of the goal that made it so special. The Thunder and the Kings managed to go to a third overtime period for the second consecutive night but this time the Polytechnic would come on top after Wozney walked into Concordia’s zone and sniped a beautiful wrist shot over the Thunder goaltender to win it and send Game 3 back to Red Deer.

On top of this, he added three assists on Sunday night in the 5-3 series-clinching win to make it a total of five points on the weekend. Heading into the post-season Wozney contributed nine goals and nine assists for a total of 18 points which was good enough for fifth on his team.

Congratulations Jacob and we also look forward to cheering you and the Kings on this weekend as you fight for your first championship since the 1993/1994 season.
