Makenna Fitzgerald, Women's Cross-Country, SAIT Trojans
Makenna Fitzgerald was a bit of a question mark going into the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships due to a foot injury sustained earlier in the season, but she quickly put those fears to rest Saturday afternoon at Gold Bar Park in Edmonton.
The fourth-year runner from Kamloops, BC, won her second straight ACAC title in the women's 6km race, finishing in a time of 22:51 - more than 30 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Fitzgerald becomes the first SAIT female to win back-to-back ACAC titles since Tamara Salomon did so in 1994 and 1995. Makenna Fitzgerald is a Diagnostic Medical Sonography student at SAIT.
