Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper Athlete of the Week for January 30 - February 5, 2017

Heim stopped 97 of 99 shots from the NAIT Ooks in leading the MacEwan University Griffins to a weekend sweep of their Edmonton rivals. On Feb. 3, the goaltender made 47 saves in regulation and then stopped all four shooters in the shootout to lead the Griffins to a 3-2 win at the Downtown Community Arena. But she was even better in Saturday’s rematch at NAIT Arena, frustrating the Ooks with 50 saves for a 2-0 shutout. Not counting the shootout saves, that’s an incredible .980 save percentage for the weekend. For the season, Heim now leads the ACAC with a 1.48 goals against average, a .944 save percentage and, more importantly, her play has the Griffins in second place with a 14-8-0 record.

Sandy is a second year Accounting and Strategic Measurement student from Wilderswil, Switzerland.

Congratulations Sandy!

Honourable mention goes to Laura Belisle (women’s basketball) from St. Mary’s University Lightning, who had a total of 12 three-pointers during a weekend sweep of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to earn a combined 42 points over the two-game weekend.
