Vermilion, AB (October 29, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Sophia Nowicki of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks has been selected as the 2018-19 ACAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The second year Kodiaks student athlete from Calgary, Alberta is enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing program. She graduated from St Timothy HS in Cochrane in June of 2017. Sophia was highly recruited by several post-secondary institutions after placing second at the 2016 HS cross country provincials. Her goals are to be a nurse one day and she loves to run and does it as a hobby and a life skill as part of her goals in life.
"Sophia has steadily become stronger physically and more determined this season knowing that she is ready to compete with open and university level runners this past NB GP series," says Head Coach Bertil Johansson. "Her competitive influence on the trails have reflected positively on to the rest of the team who has seen a dynamic improvement from last year!"
"What an amazing season Sophia has had representing the Kodiaks and dedicating herself to being the best that she can possibly be," says Kodiaks Athletic Manager, Todd Caughlin. "What Sophia has been able to achieve this season is truly incredible when you combine her academic pursuits!"
This prestigious award was presented to Sophia at the 2018 ACAC Cross Country Championship held on Saturday, October 27th at Lakeland College – Vermillion.
