Vermilion, AB (October 29, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Leonard Chesoo of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been selected as the 2018-19 ACAC Male Rookie of the Year.
Leonard had an incredible rookie season for the Thunder, his pace was very consistent as he finished in the top three in every ACAC Grand Prix this season, two of them being first place finishes. Leonard's race in Grand Prairie for Grand Prix #3 was easily his best performance as he posted personal best time of 25m:13s for the men's 8km race. At the ACAC Cross Country Championships in Vermillion, AB, Leonard posted a time of 25m:46s earning him the ACAC Silver Medal.
The first year Kenyan runner has generated some excitement on the Concordia University of Edmonton campus. "It is rare to find an international recruit with elite athletic ability. We are very grateful to have Leonard as a part of the Thunder cross country program and we are thrilled to watch him represent our school at the upcoming CCAA Cross Country Championships in Toronto, ON on November 10th, 2018. I look forward to watching Leonard excel as both a student and a runner here at Concordia." Joel Mrak, Director of Athletics.
Leonard grew up in Iten, Kenya and has come to Concordia to study in the Bachelor of Science program. In addition to being an incredible long distance runner, Leonard is also specialized in the 3000m and 5000m distances and will be joining the Indoor Track team this winter.
This prestigious award was presented to Leonard Chesoo at the 2018 ACAC Cross Country Championship Ceremony held on October 26, 2018 at Lakeland College.
