The Ambrose Lions headed south to the Snake Pit to take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the second half of a home and home. The Ambrose Lions took the first half at home 3-0 over an injury addled Rattler squad. Medicine Hat had lost their starting setter early in the season and their best hitter went down in practice the day before they traveled to Ambrose. The set started with the teams trading side-outs to start. This continued as the score climbed. The Lions were the first to break through opening up a 2 point cushion at 7-9. Medicine Hat answered with a big kill of their own. The Lions were able to provide an immediate response. This momentum carried the Lions on to increase their lead to 4. Now 12-8 the Rattlers called a timeout to regroup. This did not help as the Lions continued to extend their lead. The Rattlers brought in a new setter Molly Marie in an attempt to change the momentum. A second timeout from the home team did just this. The Lions were just too dominant however as they continued to maintain their lead late in the set. As the Lions hit 24 the Rattlers started to roll and mount a very late comeback. They were able to cut the 10 point lead to 7 before ultimately falling to the Visitors 25-18. The Lions led 1 set to 0.
The second set started with Medicine Hat scoring the first point on a Lions error. On their second attempt the Lions did not make the same mistake twice. As the teams once again settled in to the game, they traded side-outs early. Neither team able to make any defensive plays. This led to the score again slowly climbing up with both sides. As the scores neared 7, Ambrose was able to grab an advantage and started to push again. After opening up a 2 point lead, a Rattler error gave the Lions another 3 point advantage. This caused the Rattlers to call a timeout. Coming out of the break the Rattlers came up with a huge block in an attempt to pull the momentum back to them. The Lions quickly killed this with 2 straight points off attacks. The Lead up to 5, Ambrose lead 14-9. Another quick Lions Kill and they had a firm control of the game. The Lions bench was warned about excessive celebration and the Rattlers used this to turn the momentum in their favor. This was a short lived spurt as the Lions continued to dominate. Another late charge from the Rattlers came up short as the Lions lead was too much. The Rattlers fell in the second 25-19. Taking a 2-0 lead.
The third set started with the Rattlers exploding out of the gate. Jumping out to a quick 5-2 lead on the back of strong play from Brooke Christie and Janelle Neyron. The strong play continued at they opened up their lead a bit further to 4. Some impressive defense and another Brooke Christie Kill extended the lead again. Ambrose finally broke serve but followed up with a missed serve. Ambrose started to chip away at the small Rattler lead taking breaks where they could find them. Any time the Rattlers started to show cracks they came back with a big kill of their own to take back momentum. With their lead still 4, the score hit the mid point of the set. Ambrose battled back taking the next 4 points to tie the set at 15. This forced the home side to take a timeout. The Lions took advantage back coming out of the break scoring the next two points. At this late point in the game the Lions advantage could prove deadly. Teams traded side-outs as the score climbed closer to 25. Another Rattler error gave the Lions a 20-17 advantage. This saw the Rattlers take their final timeout. Medicine Hat scored 2 straight out of the timeout to bring the game to one point. This was short lived as the Lions once again pressed and pulled ahead late. This was again too much as the Rattlers fell 25-20 and 3 sets to none.
