Sept. 8, 2018 – Picking up where they left off last season, the SAIT Trojans opened their season with a 3-0 victory over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
The reigning ACAC south division champions scored early and didn't look back. Autumn Schneider scored in the 14th minute, winning a foot race in front of the net with Kodiaks goalkeeper Brittany Klein.
Maddie Lee added to the Trojan lead in the 28th minute, as SAIT took a 2-0 lead into half.
The Trojans then put the game away quickly as soon as play resumed, as Mataya Blakney scored in the 49th minute.
Skye Gordon had a pair of assists for the Trojans, while goalkeeper Amy Offredi earned a blank sheet by making four saves.
The Kodiaks showed flashes but were unable to sustain much offensive pressure against a tight Trojans defensive side. Aimee Santangelo earned Kodiaks player of the game for her efforts on the defensive side of the ball while Maddie lee earned player of the game honours for SAIT.
Both teams joined together at the end of the game to take a picture with the Kodiaks Payden Olsen. Olsen was on the Kodiaks bench to cheer on her team just over one month after losing her right foot in a lawnmowing accident.
Lethbridge will look to regroup when they travel to Olds tomorrow, while the Trojans will clash with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in their home opener.
