WSOC | Kodiaks Fall in Home Finale

Oct. 21, 2017 – It's been a trying season at times for the Kodiaks women's soccer team. Despite plenty of good efforts throughout the season, the squad entered their final home game of the 2017 season with a 2-6-1 record, and were playing for pride against a tough SAIT Trojans side.

The Kodiaks effort was there, but they were unable to muster any offence in suffering a 5-0 defeat.

SAIT kept Kodiaks goalkeeper Brittany Klein busy in the first half by forcing her to make seven saves, and they finally broke through with a goal in the 34th minute. After Emily Fedoriak was denied on a breakaway courtesy of a brilliant diving stop by Klein, Trojans forward Cassandra Bush won a race to the rebound and tapped it home for a 1-0 lead.

The Trojans struck again four minutes later, after a scramble play in the box off a corner. Gaining control of the ball at the top of the box, Kimberly Hirtz placed a hard strike into the lower left corner for a 2-0 lead.

SAIT kept up the pressure in the second half, adding early goals by Mataya Blakney and Cassandra Bush to put the game away. An additional Trojans goal in extra time from Skye Gordon made the final score 5-0.

Kodiaks forward Brooklyn Bellavance had the only shot on goal in the game for the Kodiaks, who will now take on the Olds Broncos on the road tomorrow in their season finale.

After the game the Kodiaks honoured senior Kayla Keech, who played her last home game as a Kodiak. Keech was always counted on as a steady presence on the Kodiaks backend, and will be missed by everyone in Kodiaks Country!
