OLDS, Alta. - The NAIT Ooks came flying out of the gate, using a strong first period to push past the Olds College Broncos 4-2 at the Town of Olds Sports Complex on Thursday.

Jordan McMillan, Delaney Martin, and Jenn Gaeckle all scored for NAIT (7-2-0), while Kaitlyn Slator made 19 saves in goal for the Ooks.

At the other end, Tori Eilers was busy for the Broncos (3-5-1), making 39 saves in the Olds College goal, while Tori Chenier had the lone Olds College marker.

The Ooks hit the scoreboard just over five minutes into the first, as McMillan took a pass from Brittney Savard, beating Eilers to put NAIT up one early. The Ooks kept pushing, and their persistence was rewarded midway through the period as Martin found the back of the net, putting NAIT up two after 20 minutes of play.

After a scoreless second period, Chenier cut the deficit in half on a breakaway early in the third, but Gaeckle iced it with a shorthanded marker with just over four minutes remaining.

Megan Leblanc was the player of the game for NAIT, while Sarah Jarvis took the honour for the Broncos.

NAIT and Olds College will battle once more in Edmonton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
