Maddy Douglas stole the show Friday night as her five triples propelled the SAIT Trojans to a 51-35 victory at the Ambrose Lions Den.
Both teams struggled mightily to score as both SAIT and Ambrose shot below 25% from the field. Ambrose jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to a Paige Goertzen, however the Trojans would chip their way back to being within 2 at the quarter break. The Lions only scored 4 points in both the 2nd and 3rd quarter, resulting in SAIT breaking away from what looked like would be a very competitive game. A total of 32 turnovers as well as being out-rebounded by the taller Trojans did not help Ambrose tonight.
Leading Lions scorer and player of the game Paige Goertzen had another double digit performance, finishing with 12, gobbled up 12 rebounds, and shot perfectly from the free throw line. Ambrose's record dropped to 3-16 as they have not found a win so far in the 2019 portion of the schedule.
The teams are set to rematch on February 22 in both teams final game of the regular season.
