CALGARY, AB (March 16, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Matthew Travaglini of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2018-19 ACAC Men's Indoor Track Runner of the Year.
This is the second straight season in which Travaglini has earned the honour, making him the first indoor track runner, male or female, in ACAC history to achieve the feat. At the season's final event – the Conference Championships hosted by SAIT at Repsol Sport Centre – Travaglini captured gold in both the 3,000-and-1,500-metre races, setting a new ACAC Championships record in both events. He also took silver in the 1,000m, and helped his team earn second place in the 4x400m relay.
Altogether, Travaglini's efforts went a long way in helping his men's team earn their third straight ACAC title.
"Matthew is someone we have come to expect big things from, and he never fails to deliver," says SAIT Athletics and Recreation Director, Wade Kolmel. "While it is his gold medal finishes that get the headlines, the amount of class he shows in attaining that success flies under the radar."
Travaglini, from London, Ont., is a fourth-year Geomatics Engineering Technology student at SAIT.
This prestigious award was presented to Travaglini at the 2019 ACAC Indoor Track Championships Awards Banquet held March 16 at SAIT.
