Matthew Norminton Named ACAC 2018-19 Indoor Track Coach of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (March 16, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce that Matthew Norminton of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been named the ACAC Indoor Track Coach of the Year.

Coach Norminton is in his 10th season as head coach for the Thunder Cross Country and Indoor Track program. This will be Matt's third time being honoured as coach of the year. He was the 2014/15 ACAC and CCAA Coach of the Year for Cross Country Running and then in the following 2015/16 season was named Indoor Track Coach of the Year.

After having a very successful cross country running season in the fall, the Concordia University of Edmonton track team followed up with an outstanding season indoors posting impressive times at each grand prix. At the 2018-19 ACAC Indoor Track Championships the Thunder tallied five medals including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. The women's team would finish 3rd overall while the men's team finished 4th overall.

Coach Norminton plays a major role in organizing the ACAC Running Room Grand Prix series events each year and dedicates much of his time towards helping student athletes achieve their goals on and off the track. "Matt has done an exceptional job leading our indoor track team and championing the sport in the ACAC. His student-athletes feed off of his enthusiasm and are constantly achieving more in the sport thanks to his guidance. We are very fortunate to have Matt as our indoor track coach and representing our university" Joel Mrak, Director of Athletics.

Matthew Norminton received the award on March 16th, 2019 at the ACAC Indoor Track Championship Banquet held in Calgary, AB.
