October 21, 2018 – The Kodiaks took to the field in Lethbridge against the Rustlers looking to close out their last home game of the year and final regular season game in style, but the Rustlers had a different plan, stealing the tie.
The Kodiaks showed an early dominance on the field, controlling the pace of the first half, furthered by the Rustlers Josh Hatzenbuuhler exiting the game early on with an ankle injury.
Rustlers goal keeper Zach Wagner showed he was ready for the Kodiaks, holding off their attack on the net until Wilson Ntignee found the net off a pass from Jimmy Bukuru to give the Kodiaks a 1-0 lead.
Bukuru built off the momentum, going top corner on a pass from Ntignee outside the 18 yard line to advance the Kodiaks lead to 2-0 and changing the atmosphere on the field.
Rustlers Keilan Hozempa answered back with a goal of his own, taking advantage of high emotions on the field after a series of rough plays, putting the Rustlers on the scoreboard going into the second half.
Brennan Liebscher built off of Hozempa's momentum starting out the second half by sneaking a shot passed Kodiaks goal keeper Kohl Wandyka off a pass from Spencer Phillips, quickly followed by a second Liebscher goal to give the Rustlers a 3-2 lead.
Ntignee answered back with his second goal of the game off a penalty kick just inside the bottom corner to tie up the match 3-3 midway through the half.
Unable to break the stalemate, the Kodiaks and Rustlers finished out the game in a 3-3 tie.
The game wrapped up with a tribute to Kodiaks fifth year player Nathan Burton, as well as Rustlers fifth year player, MacKenzie Longpre.
With this victory, the Kodiaks finish out the season with a record of 7-3-2 and move on to the post-season, while the Rustler finish with a 2-6-4 record.
